Chelsea Old Church

Medieval church with Thomas More's 1528 chapel

Why it's in the guide

Officially All Saints, this medieval church on Cheyne Walk has been a place of worship since the 12th century. The More Chapel was built by Sir Thomas More in 1528, you're literally standing in Tudor history. Rebuilt after severe bomb damage in 1941, it retains its ancient character. The interior is beautiful, medieval monuments, Renaissance capitals, and stained glass. Services are still held. A profound sense of continuity in a rapidly changing city.

One of London's oldest churches. The More Chapel dates to 1528
