Royal Hospital Chelsea

Wren masterpiece and home to Chelsea Pensioners

Why it's in the guide

Home to the Chelsea Pensioners since 1692, the Royal Hospital Chelsea is a historic working residence designed by Christopher Wren. Start at the restored Soane Stable Yard, where a free interactive exhibition introduces the Hospital and its residents. Access to the main historic buildings is offered through paid guided tours led by Chelsea Pensioners; book ahead. Visitors are also welcome at Sunday chapel services. The grounds host the Chelsea Flower Show each May, and access can change during events.

The Soane Stable Yard exhibition is free; book a Pensioner-led tour to explore the main historic site.
